Dear Ms.Moses,
My name is Pia Talwar. My colleague, Dalal Bisharat, and I are in Dr. Murphy-Judy's WRLD203 class at VCU. We have chosen you as the teacher whom we will help this semester with new technologies. We are learning a lot in class and I look forward to sharing our new found skills with you.
So far, we have worked on Google Docs (which includes sharable word processing, spreadsheets and powerpoints), blogs and twitter. We will soon look at social networking like FaceBook, wikis (like Wikipedia but smaller, like for a class to create), and several others.
We would like to know which web technologies you are most interested in so we can make sure to become the best possible guide for you.
We look forward to emailing with you and then getting to know you either face-to-face or by telecommunications as we journey through these powerful teaching and learning tools.
Best,
Pia Talwar and Dalal Bisharat

HEY!
Sorry I have not gotten back to you recently, but i had some ideas. I want my IB students to use more of the internet for explore the Spanish language. I have a lesson plan idea that involves the students creating their own hispanic country, along with creating a currency, a government, a nationality, and making a product that only their country sells to make revenues (if that makes sense). I thought that it would be cool if they could create their own wiki page just like the pages you see on the internet that describes all of the above about a REAL country.
is this possible for the students to make their own wiki page even if it is full of fake facts?
if this is unclear in anyway, please let me know and i'll clarify.
thanks,
rachel

Hi!
Sounds like an interesting project!
I am not too familiar with using and creating a wiki page, but we have learned a little bit about using them in class. Your students can create a page using this site: http://www.wikispaces.com/
I think you can create this page for their projects under one of the private labels...not sure, but can try it out! But the students can definitely use the wiki page to create their final project with all the information they've come up with, as well as add pictures if they like.
Even though the facts on the page are all fake, I'm not sure if the pages will get posted on google or anywhere publicly on the internet, but you can have them note on the page somewhere that the facts are made up and only created for this project so it's not falsely used by other strangers. And perhaps when the project is over, the students can delete the page if they want.
I hope what i said helps!

oh no! that stinks. i have not heard from her yet. I am still in my current unit with my students but my next unit which will take place the next 9 weeks I am going to try to incorporate this idea. If you have any other ideas that would be good with learning about different countries and their cultures please let me know! i bet you know a ton more stuff on the internet than i do! (hehe).

Ya, so i'll be solo on this then, no big deal. Hmmm...I'll try to
think of other ideas for your students to learn about the different
countries and their cultures. In class we have been working on
projects where the class was split up into 4 groups dividing up the
world. my group covers the Southern Hemisphere which includes South
America! And since there are Spanish speaking countries in south
america, hopefully our groups should be doing a presentation in that
area soon, so that should trigger more ideas!

Hi! I know its been a while since we've talked. hope you had a great
thanksgiving!
I just remembered i had told you about the group global presentations
we were doing in class, and our group had done a presentation
specifically on South America! And we did it on Carnival in Brazil!
Here i attached our powerpoint we worked on...hopefully it could give
you some ideas about the project you wanted to work on with your
class. Along with creating their own spanish country, they would
create it's culture and festivities!

which means that my class that i'm mentoring you for is at it's end as
well! So as a heads up, i know my teacher was suppose to grade us on this, however im
not quite sure how, but i
know she is suppose to ask our teacher for a small summary of our
performance. So i hope i helped you with discovering some new ways
with technology and ways for your students to put together
presentations!
Thank you for your time and cooperation! :]

Mentee update!
I did email her with an intro. of who i am and what we have been doing in class relationg to technology and how i'll b to help her with current technology. She did reply saying Hi, and that she'll get back to me about what she wants to work on. then about a week or so later she replies again saying that she has an idea of what she would like to do, and here's her idea:
i had some ideas. I want my IB students to use more of the internet for explore the Spanish language.
