So i said i would give the rest of the 411 on my work w/my teacher mentee, so here's what we have talked about so far....
I did email her with an intro. of who i am and what we have been doing in class relationg to technology and how i'll b to help her with current technology. She did reply saying Hi, and that she'll get back to me about what she wants to work on. then about a week or so later she replies again saying that she has an idea of what she would like to do, and here's her idea:
i had some ideas. I want my IB students to use more of the internet for explore the Spanish language. I have a lesson plan idea that involves the students creating their own hispanic country, along with creating a currency, a government, a nationality, and making a product that only their country sells to make revenues (if that makes sense). I thought that it would be cool if they could create their own wiki page just like the pages you see on the internet that describes all of the above about a REAL country.
is this possible for the students to make their own wiki page even if it is full of fake facts?
if this is unclear in anyway, please let me know and i'll clarify.
thanks,
rachel
i replied saying :
Sounds like an interesting project!
I am not too familiar with using and creating a wiki page, but we have learned a little bit about using them in class. Your students can create a page using this site: http://www.wikispaces.com/
I think you can create this page for their projects under one of the private labels...not sure, but can try it out! But the students can definitely use the wiki page to create their final project with all the information they've come up with, as well as add pictures if they like.
Even though the facts on the page are all fake, I'm not sure if the pages will get posted on google or anywhere publicly on the internet, but you can have them note on the page somewhere that the facts are made up and only created for this project so it's not falsely used by other strangers. And perhaps when the project is over, the students can delete the page if they want.
I hope what i said helps!
The last i heard from her was her reply of: this helps out A LOT! i want to make sure you get credit for helping me out so if you need me to e-mail you however many times a week, i will! just let me know what i need to do so you and your parent can get the credit you need.
